I had sort of a small realization recently; I wasn't aware how bad it was until i opened my eyes to it.
Why is Vegetarianism shunned so greatly in this country?
It's almost as seperated as religion or sexuality. you're either strongly for it, or strongly against it.
This isn't going to turn into a rant on why you should be vegetarian, either. I believe it's your choice based on your beliefs.
I remember when my cousin was little and i'd eat lunch or something with them a few years back, and she'd eat bacon and give me some. and i'd go to politely refuse it and my family would say "NO, don't do that. just pretend to eat it." =/
Now i'm curious as to see what their reactions would be if I explained to my cousin (now that she's older) why I dont eat meat, or that I never did. I guess they are afraid she'd become vegetarian too, but is it really that bad of a decision to make, if she chooses to do so?
I also get alot of spheal from people at work and people who i "know". (quoted because they are more of aqquaintances than friends)
They will say things like "Youve been a vegetarian for how long? Wowwww, how do you do it?"
And then the next day they'll come back at me with several "facts" they probably googled up, on how we were designed to eat meat, and how it's bad not to.
Okay. Technically we WERE NOT meant to be carnivores. nor were we meant to be herbivores. If you all believe in evolution, our ancient bones (when we first seperated ourselves) proved we were omnivores(I mean REALLY ancient bones. like.. before the apes). we ate whatever we could find, to survive. We we'rent strong or agile enough to hunt, nor were we adaptable to migrate vastly to find in-season edibles. so we'd eat plants and ants and dead stuff.
Then our apey friends learned that fruit tasted hella good, and so we became fructivorians, but that didn't last too long because of climate and seasons and crap. So we started eating bugs and plants again, because the meat we used to be able to digest wasn't digestable anymore due to the lack of strong bacteria that ate the poison crap in meats- we lost it in evolution). Much later when we got the taste for meat again, we learned how to cook it(FIYAH), which made it y'know. a whole lot safer to eat, rather than dying from poisoned meat we couldnt properly digest in earlier times.
So we chose to become omnivores again because meat was abundant, and it was much easier than hunting for mosquitoes and looking for edible vegetation.
My point?
Vegetarianism ISN'T WRONG.
Since humans have adapted the minds to THINK, we should have a choice of what we put into our bodies, and shouldn't be judged just because we omit meat from our diets. Vegetarians dont scoff at all the meat eaters out there (And if they do, they shouldn't. )
The only think I preach to people is if you eat meat, think about eating just a less of it. If you study where all of the worlds pollution is coming from, it's not cars, it's cows. eating less meat'll help bring pollution levels down, and it'll be less risk for samonella getting into foods and crap.
